New Scam Alert! Amidst Soaring Prices, Vendors Are Selling Fake Garlic Made From Cement In Maharashtra’s Akola

In a series of astonishing events, a scam was uncovered wherein vendors were selling fake garlic made out of cement! Yes, you read that right! Recently, videos of the said fake garlic were circulated online, heeding others of the scam. The scam took place in the Akola district of Maharashtra. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about these fake cement garlic and why they’re being sold.

As Garlic Prices Soar, Fake Cement Garlic Sold In Akola

According to an article which was recently published by India Today, the scam was discovered in the district of Akola which is in Maharashtra. A video was circulated on X (formerly known as Twitter) that showed blocks of cement that were disguised as garlic.

This scam was brought to light when the wife of a retired police officer, Subhash Patil, found that the garlic she had been sold was made of cement. She purchased around 250 grammes of garlic from a vendor who was outside her home.

When she got home and tried to peel the garlic, the cloves could not be separated. Upon further inspection of the garlic more closely, she realised that they were made of cement but had been given a white coating to resemble actual garlic.

Other Important Details That You Would Need To Know

It is proving all the more tricky to identify this scam because the vendors are selling actual garlic mixed with fake ones. Hence, it is proving difficult to identify which oneness are fake. If reports are to go by, the high price of this kitchen staple is the primary reason why this scam is being pulled in the first place.

The prices of garlic have skyrocketed and it is a common ingredient in the kitchen. Hence, the high demand and low supply have resulted in the birth of this scam.
