New York City is inarguably one of the most diverse cities in the world and can be considered a mixed bag of cultures, races, ethnicities and more. So, it is not surprising that for this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month in NYC, the city has decided to honour the Latin culture in such a special and vibrant way with their first-ever Latin night market.

In New York, you can find a variety of Latin street food, quick and easy meals, and high-quality gourmet dishes. However, there has been a noticeable absence of a single location where you can experience the diverse flavours of the Latin diaspora.

That is until now. A new market is on a mission to fill this gap and provide a one-stop destination for the authentic taste of Latin cuisine. The city’s first-ever Latin Night Market is happening on September 15 2023, from 4 pm to 10 pm.

The market will be located on Dyckman Street, between Dyckman Plaza and Inwood Park. The event is going to be free of cost in Inwood and will mark the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month.

You can also look forward to experiencing a fantastic selection of Latin dishes, including fiery salsa, mofongo, empanadas, tacos, pupusas, and chicharrónes. As you enjoy the delicious food, you’ll be treated to multiple stages featuring lively music performances, including salsa, reggae, rumba, jazz, Latin pop, and hip hop.

This event aims to be groundbreaking as the first-ever large-scale food and culture festival specifically focused on the Latin and Hispanic diaspora. The organizers anticipate an attendance of around 20,000 guests.

According to TimeOut, each vendor participating in the Latin Night Market must offer at least one traditional item representing a region or culture from South and Central America or the Caribbean.

TimeOut also reports that the inaugural Latin Night Market is scheduled to be an annual event. However, due to its anticipated success, there are discussions about transforming it into a monthly market starting in 2024.
