Akasa Air, India’s newest airline which started operations less than a month ago, informed on Sunday that it has suffered a data breach resulting in unauthorized individuals gaining access to user information. Akasa Airlines apologized for the data breach and said the incident was self-reported to the nodal agency, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). The airlines also revealed that as per its records, there was “no intentional hacking attempt.” However, Akasa airlines has advised users to be careful of possible phishing attempts. No Travel-related Information, Records Or Payments Was Compromised; Says Akasa Airlines
On August 28, the official Twitter handle of Akasa Airlines posted that they have reported important update on its website. Talking about the data breach reported on August 25, the website update said, “As a result, some Akasa Air registered user information limited to names, gender, e-mail addresses and phone numbers may have been viewed by unauthorized individuals. We can confirm to you that aside from the above details, no travel-related information, travel records or payment information was compromised.” Soon after the data breach was reported, Akasa Airline immediately stopped the unauthorized access by completely shutting down the associated functional elements of its system.

Additional Measures Taken To Ensure Enhancement Of Security Systems
According to Akasa Air’s Co-Founder and Chief Information Officer Anand Srinivasan, the information was proactively shared with customers who could have been potentially impacted. Specific details about the incident could not be immediately ascertained. Talking about the importance of security, Srinivasan added that the system security and protection of customer information is paramount at Akasa airlines.
“While extensive protocols are in place to prevent incidents of such nature, we have undertaken additional measures to ensure that the security of all our systems is even further enhanced.” Later as more statements kept pouring in, Akasa Airlines also said that the system security and protection of customer information is paramount. The airline also sincerely apologized to the passengers for any inconvenience caused as a result of the data breach.
