Incessant rainfall has now triggered a massive landslide on NH-75, disrupting vehicular movement between Mangaluru and Bengaluru. The traffic has slowed down significantly, and authorities have now deployed personnel and machinery to clear the debris. Here is more on it.
Landslide Brings Traffic To A Halt On NH-75
Traffic came to a standstill when relentless rain triggered a massive landslide on NH-75 at Mannagundi near Kaukradi village in Kadaba taluk on Thursday (July 17). As per a report by The New Indian Express, the national highway, which connects Mangaluru and Bengaluru, was heavily affected due to the landslide and debris, which slowed down vehicular movement on this key route. The image showing debris on the route was shared by X user, @about_karnataka, on their account yesterday.
Authorities have since deployed personnel along with heavy machinery to clear the roads and ensure traffic movement resumes as soon as possible. Reportedly, police officials also confirmed that efforts were underway to restore the road to its normal condition on time. Moreover, they also urged commuters to take alternative routes in the meantime to avoid congestion and further delays.

Mangaluru Reports More Landslides
Due to the landslide, large amounts of mud from the adjacent hills have also spilt onto the highway, blocking several sections of the road. As per a report by The New Indian Express, continuous rainfall across Dakshina Kannada has led to a rise in water levels in the Netravathi River, which has already submerged several low-lying areas. In response, the district administration declared a holiday for all schools and pre-university colleges on Thursday, July 17.
Meanwhile, Mangaluru reported another significant landslide near the Circuit House, blocking one side of the road that connects NH-66 to the KSRTC bus stand in Bejai. Authorities have now barricaded that stretch to ensure safety. The rising number of minor landslides around the area has also led to frustration among locals. Many are expressing concern over the authorities’ delayed response to repeated landslide incidents, especially during the peak monsoon season.
Authorities have now issued an advisory, urging commuters to avoid non-essential travel on NH-75. People have also been asked to stay updated with the latest weather and traffic advisories. Furthermore, officials have warned that more landslides are likely to occur if the rain continues over the next few days.
