We know the summers are perfect to be out and cooling off at the beach. But what do you do when temperatures soar beyond 40 degrees & you don’t want to get sunburned?

What Is It?

Head to Dubai’s only ‘night swimming beach’, Umm Suqeim 1 Beach, that allows visitors to enjoy swimming till midnight. Previously swimming past sunset was not allowed in the UAE due to safety issues. The change in the government policy follows the installation of two “Smart Poles” that will automatically provide high-intensity lighting on the beach after sunset. Dubai Municipality has appointed 84 lifeguards to man the strip, while small red floats with lights will mark the point up to which visitors can swim out.

What Else?

Dubai has become the first emirate in the UAE to allow nighttime swimming, with the installation of two smart power poles on Umm Suqeim 1 Beach. Eng. Alia Al Harmoudi, Director of Environment Department at Dubai Municipality said “The smart poles are equipped with digital screens to display marine warnings in case of sea disturbance. The texts of the marine warnings and the colors of the flags usually flying on the beaches to warn the swimmers will be scrolled on the screens. When the red light shines, it indicates the danger of swimming and its impossibility.” she said.
