Under the dynamic leadership of Sarpanch Amar Suryavanshi, the village has undergone a significant transformation over the past four years. One of the most striking features of Jakekurwadi is its firm stance against alcohol and tobacco. In a country where the consumption of these substances is often intertwined with social life, Jakekurwadi has chosen a different path.

The village has implemented a strict ban on both the consumption and sale of alcohol and tobacco products. This policy extends to prohibiting the entry of anyone under the influence of alcohol, making Jakekurwadi a sanctuary of sobriety. According to Dainik Bhaskar reports, the penalties for violating these rules are steep, with fines of ₹5,000 for selling gutka and ₹500 for consuming it. It ensures that the village remains free from these vices.

However, the village’s commitment to well-being doesn’t stop there. Recognising the pervasive impact of technology on daily life, especially on the younger generation, Jakekurwadi has instituted a “no mobile, no TV” policy from 6 pm to 8 pm every day. This initiative was born out of a need to refocus children’s attention on their studies. To reinforce this routine, a siren rings at 6 o’clock each evening, signalling the start of study time.

The results of these initiatives have been nothing short of inspiring. The village’s youth, once distracted by mobile phones and television, now aspire to become IAS and IPS officers. They are certainly driven by a renewed sense of purpose and ambition. The collective effort to prioritise education has fostered a culture of discipline and aspiration.

The village itself has also been physically transformed. There is a new underground drainage system, benches for the elderly, and a focus on environmental sustainability, as per the News 18 reports. Jakekurwadi has also taken strides to improve the quality of life for its residents.

Jakekurwadi’s journey from a typical village to a model of progressive rural governance is a story of what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared vision. It is not just a village but a living example of how rural India can innovate and lead by example.
