Flights will not operate between 10 AM and 6 PM every day from March 1 to July 15 due to runway recarpeting at Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport. The cancellation of more than 1,088 flights at the Lucknow Airport will impact approximately 1.84 lakh passengers. With bituminous overlay, milling, and LED lighting conversion for increased efficiency, the runway’s refurbishment attempts to improve its functionality.
Lucknow Airport’s Runway Gets A Revamp
After years of effectively serving the airport and its travellers, the current runway has to be upgraded to ensure peak performance and dependability. To improve texture, friction, profile, strength, operating efficiency, and related repairs that were envisioned throughout the years, it will be recarpeted according to an official. The bituminous runway, which is 2,744 meters long and 45 meters wide, with a 7.5-meter shoulder on either side, was last recarpeted in 2018.
The planned recarpeting of the Lucknow Airport includes grinding the current bituminous runway and then bituminous overlay and inlay to meet Regulator-specified design requirements. The runway and taxiways will be recarpeted, covering a total area of 1.80 lakh square meters. A new 2,744-meter parallel taxiway will be built at CCSI Airport. It will enable quick aircraft entry and departure after landing or takeoff. During this time, an extra taxiway P9 will also be built.
Energy Efficient Lighting Will Also Be Added At The Airport
The airfield ground lighting system will be upgraded from halogen to LED as part of the runway improvement project. The airfield signage will also be upgraded. The airport will save at least 50% on power thanks to the LED conversion.
During the recarpeting, Lucknow Airport, which typically handles 140 aeroplane travel movements (ATMs), is anticipated to handle 132 ATMs per day. According to the administration, customers should confirm any updates or alterations with their particular airlines since flight schedules may need to be adjusted.
Prior to receiving permissions, CCSI Airport’s runway upgrade entailed discussions with regulatory agencies, airlines, and other stakeholders. This reduced cancellations and made it easier to reschedule flights.
