Heavy rains are causing havoc in Bengaluru. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), Coastal and North interior Karnataka would witness widespread rains for the next 4-5 days. Rain has broken the 90-year record in the state which has led to major water-logging in its IT Capital Bengaluru. Amidst this chaotic situation, numerous private schools in Bengaluru have announced holidays and companies have allowed their employees the flexibility to work from home. However, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has assured his government’s commitment to restore normalcy and bring under control the flood-like situation across the state and in Bengaluru.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) Predicts Heavy Downpour In Bengaluru For The Next 5 Days Owing To A Cyclonic Circulation
On Wednesday morning, India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that a cyclonic circulation is most likely to form in the south interior of Karnataka and neighborhood areas during the next 24 hours. According to IMD, this might lead to widespread rainfall and thunderstorm, and lightning over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam till September 10, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu Puducherry, and Karaikal on September 7 and 8; Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe during next 5 days. Speaking about unprecedented rainfall in Bengaluru, IMD Scientist Dr. Geetha Agnihotri said on September 6, “Today’s rainfall report for Bengaluru is: Electronic City-8 cms, City office-4 cms, International airport-9.6 mm and HAL airport-5 cms. Heavy rain for next 2-3 days in Bengaluru, yellow alert was issued for today. Widespread rains for next 5 days in coastal and North interior Karnataka, 3 days widespread rains followed by fairly widespread rains in the next 2 days in South interior Karnataka.”
Rains Have Battered Many Parts of The City
The consistent downpour is severely impacting the lives of the general public in Karnataka’s IT capital Bengaluru. From overflowing lakes and stormwater drain in low-lying areas to vehicles being submerged in numerous parts of the city, heavy rainfall has tampered with the peace in Bengaluru city. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) predicted a disruption in water in several areas of Bengaluru city on September 6 and 7. Meanwhile, there’s massive water-logging in localities like Rainbow Drive layout, Kengeri, R R Nagar, Sunny Brooks Layout, Sarjapur Road, Marathalli, Whitefield, Indiranagar, Bommanahalli, and Mahadevapura.
