Not Just California, South Korea Will Have Its Own “Hollywood” Soon To Woo K-Pop & K-Drama Fans

Every cinephile has a dream of visiting Hollywood. The larger-than-life symbol of global entertainment in California beckons cinema lovers and tourists. From Paramount Pictures to the star-studded Walk of Fame, it’s a cinema haven every tourist wants to tick off their bucket list. There’s also good news for K-pop and K-drama fans! Not just California, but even South Korea will have its own Hollywood where you can ride the K-wave in style!

South Korea To Establish Its Own “Hollywood”

South Korea’s biggest export to the world is its culture or k-ulture! From heart-throbbing bands like BTS and Black Pink to Netflix’s global hit Squid Games to soapy romantic dramas, the world has been swept by the K-wave. For long, the nation didn’t have an entertainment mecca. But things are about to change.

Like California’s Hollywood, South Korea will also have its own “Hollywood” to attract global tourists. The government aims to develop an area spanning 3.3 square kilometres that celebrates and empowers its thriving entertainment industry. This space will feature specialised schools for content production and entertainment. Tourists can explore full-scale replicas of Joseon dynasty palaces. Think historical dramas like Mr. Queen and The Red Sleeve!

An Entertainment City To Attract Tourists & Investors

South Korea’s Culture Minister Yu In-Chon stated to Bloomberg Television that they aim to create a giant entertainment city. The minister expects this entertainment hub will attract investments in telecom, financial and Internet services. To push forward its content-first approach, the government has also pledged to establish a 100 billion won fund. This fund will primarily be used to support and export Korean content.
