The government has instructed the bustling Mumbai airport to cut off the scheduled planes. Also, they have been asked to decrease the operations of business jets during rush hours. There are some significant reasons behind the government making such decisions for an airport that sees the movement of a humongous number of passengers every single day.

Several airlines in India such as SpiceJet and Akasa Air have cancelled some of their flights at the airport in the City of Dreams till March 30. According to a report by Business Standard, Akasa Air has cancelled 90 flights till the above-mentioned date. Some airlines are following the directive announced by the government and taking action accordingly. According to data shared by Cirium, Akasa Air runs 54 planes and Spicejet operates 34 flights to and from here each day.

Around 910 flights are operating every day to and from the Mumbai airport. Amid such a massive number of regular operations, the Airports Authority of India recently instructed the Mumbai International Airport Limited to cut off scheduled flights operating here.

Mumbai Airport is reportedly facing a major issue of congestion because of its flight slots. The congestion led to a terrible issue of negatively impacting on scheduled timing of operations and on-time performances. In fact, some flights simply hovered over the airport premises for about an hour because of the congesting situation, according to a report by The Economic Times.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation stated that the airport operator did not take any action to control the increasing air traffic problems. This is when the concerned departments forced the airport to regulate the issue and decrease the present number of flights operating at the airport.
