With rains returning to Mumbai, road conditions have started to deteriorate across the city. In a bid to tackle the recurring menace of potholes, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched the ‘Pothole QuickFix’ app in Mumbai. The initiative enables residents to report potholes instantly using their smartphones, allowing civic authorities to take swift action. The app, available on Android and iOS, aims to make road maintenance more efficient, transparent and citizen-driven during the monsoon season.

According to Mumbai Live, the Pothole QuickFix app offers a simple interface that lets users upload photos of potholes, which are then automatically geo-tagged. The complaint goes directly to the concerned ward office. Once registered, citizens can track the status of their complaint through three stages—Open, In Progress, and Resolved. If a user feels the repair work is unsatisfactory, they can reopen the complaint within 24 hours, which prompts further inspection or escalation. The app aims to address pothole complaints within 48 hours, reducing the long-standing delays usually faced during the monsoon.

WhatsApp Chatbot For Better Accessibility

In addition to the app, BMC has introduced a WhatsApp-based chatbot to make the reporting process more accessible. Citizens can now message the word “Pothole”, “PT”, or “Khadda” (Marathi for pothole) to 8999228999. The bot will ask the user to upload a photo and location details, registering the complaint in the system. This tool ensures that even those who have not downloaded the app can still contribute to road safety through WhatsApp.

The Pothole QuickFix app in Mumbai brings civic participation and digital innovation together, promising safer and smoother roads for all.
