According to an article which was recently published by The Local, Indians arriving in Sweden have far outnumbered the Indians leaving the country. However, this trend was broken this year. If reports are to go by, a total of 2,837 Indian-born people left Sweden in the first half of this year.

Compared to last year during the same period, there has been a whopping 171 per cent increase in the number of Indians leaving the country. What is more, the number of Indians that have moved to Sweden between January and June of 2024 is only 2,461.

As per the CEO of the Sweden-India Business Council, Robin Sukhia, it is important to not draw hasty conclusions on limited data. There may be a wide variety of reasons as to why the trend has broken this year.

As per the data provided by Statistics Sweden, this is the first time it has happened since data collection began. Indian immigration to Sweden has been on a steady climb since 2009 and only hit its lowest in 2017.

The oldest known records are from 1998, and precluding the pandemic years, this is the first time when the number of Indians arriving in Sweden has fallen compared to the number of Indians leaving Sweden.
