nutrition week

The first week of September is observed as the national nutrition week in the country. When we think of healthy eating, one of the first things that may pop into our heads is diet. There are a number of diets, some effective and based on science, others, not so much. However, going on specific diets like Keto, Atkins, and the like may require specific resources that not everyone has access to. So instead of going on diets, here are a few eating habits that will help you attain a more holistically healthy lifestyle.

These are five habits you can develop for a more holistically healthy lifestyle: –

  1. Mindful Eating: In today’s world everything seems to be screaming for our attention, food and eating can take a backseat. It is crucial to put aside your phone and be mindful of what you’re eating. Mindful eating consists of paying attention to food as well as eating, from the aroma to chewing. Studies have shown that mindful eating can actually alleviate symptoms of mental illness as well.
  2. Nutrient-Dense Food: Rather than quantity, it is important to pick food that has more nutrients. This will help you feel healthier, satiate your hunger faster and keep you full for longer. Picking such food items also ensures that your body gets all the nutrients it requires to operate optimally.
  3. Managing Cravings: It is important to not give in to every other craving that your body has. Deep breaths can work wonders for managing your cravings.
  4. Self-Reflection: Another tip in negotiating with your cravings is reflecting on what caused them. If you can be honest about your triggers, it will help you navigate your cravings much more effectively.
  5. Healthy Snacks: Instead of giving in to your cravings, strike a bargain and have something healthy instead. If you crave savoury, snack on veggie chips. If you want a sweet dish, try fruits.
