Exploring Kota’s Culinary Heritage
In a recent episode of “Tere Gully Mein,” we engaged in a delightful conversation with Nitin Vijay, popularly known as NV Sir, from Kota. NV Sir fondly reminisced about Suwalal Ji Ki Kachori, a renowned establishment in Rampura Bazar, Kota, operating for nearly 70 years. He shared, “My father has memories of it; my grandfather used to talk about it too.” Discussing the shop’s signature offering, he mentioned, “We will have dal kachori.”
He also highlighted the tradition of enjoying bun maska with tea, noting its popularity among students, especially during late-night study sessions. Reflecting on his own student days, NV Sir humorously recalled, “Once, they [the police] chased us really hard. There were three or four of us—we were studying late at night, preparing for IIT exams.” The conversation concluded with a tasting of homemade moong dal laddoos, a winter speciality made by blending moong dal, dry fruits, and ghee, further showcasing Kota’s rich culinary traditions.

NV Sir On Fostering Creativity, Overcoming Challenges And Pursuing Teaching
NV Sir from Kota shared his insights on fostering creativity among students. He emphasised, “What is really important if you want to succeed in life in the future? You should be creative.” He also likened the use of AI to mobile phones, noting, “It’s similar to how mobile phones can be both a blessing and a curse, depending on how you use them. He also shared his aspirations, mentioning, “I always wanted to be a teacher; I decided to do that in my first year, but yes, I initially thought of being an astronaut or a teacher.”
He concluded by highlighting the challenges he faced, stating, “Financially, I was very sound. I come from a middle-class, traditional family, and something happened when we were studying. My dad had invested in something, and there were huge losses. That time was difficult, but I think that difficulty probably motivated me to keep going, to study and to do something in life.”
On this episode, real-life Jeetu Bhaiya, Kota’s beloved NV Sir, not only revealed his go-to spot for delicious treats but also shared all about his love for the city and his passion for teaching.
