Okalipuram Corridor In Bengaluru Set To Open Two Final Lanes By February 2025, Promising Signal-Free Access To KSR Railway Station

The long-awaited eight-lane Okalipuram corridor is almost finished. It is an essential piece of infrastructure that will allow Rajajinagar and Malleswaram to easily connect to the KSR City Railway Station. By February 2025, the two remaining lanes must be finished, according to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Since its inception in 2014, the Okalipuram corridor project has experienced several noteworthy milestones. Last year, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah officially opened two one-way flyovers that connect Rajajinagar and Malleswaram to the railway station, according to Times of India reports. In addition, the public can now access an underpass located beneath the Bengaluru-Tumakuru railway track.

Many residents have already experienced a smoother commute thanks to this important segment. According to a report by the Times of India, in 2018, Siddaramaiah officially opened two more completed corridor segments. These initiatives have gradually strengthened the goal of providing residents of west Bengaluru with a signal-free travel experience.

The remaining work primarily involves completing the underpass beneath the Chennai and Tumkur railway track. This section has been delayed because of logistical issues. The trains frequently travel through this track. So, the only time the railways can install precast boxes and perform other construction tasks is between 12:30 pm and 4:30 pm.

Once the underpass is ready, BBMP will step in to lay drainage pipelines and finish the roadwork, according to M Lokesh, BBMP’s Chief Engineer for Projects. Cost escalations have also added to the project’s challenges. The Railways have requested an additional 7 crore from BBMP in order to complete the Chennai track underpass.

This request is currently under review and will require approval from the government. When the ₹337 crore Okalipuram corridor is finished, it is anticipated that traffic patterns in the city will change. This includes ₹156 crore for land acquisition, the Times of India reported.

According to BBMP officials, this project is expected to set a standard for Bengaluru’s infrastructure development. The project promises to make daily commutes more efficient and smooth for thousands of commuters.

Residents are eagerly awaiting the completion of the final lanes.
