In our newest series, we bring to you one of India’s Most Extreme experiences and this time around, we’re covering the deadly and controversial, Tamil Nadu’s Jallikattu festival. Jallikattu is a sport which involves embracing and taming the bull while it escapes from a narrow window or passage into the ground. Played majorly in Madurai, the festival is known to be connected with ancient tamil roots. In 2020, more than 100 people were injured and 5 people died. Infact, the supreme court banned the sport in 2014 on the grounds of cruelty to animals. However multiple protests took place in Tamil Nadu to uplift the ban, stating the sport was central to their cultural identity.
