Exploring The Top 8 Gems Of Jaisalmer, The Golden City | I Love My India EP 70

Have you been to the Golden City of India, Jaisalmer? Here are the top 8 gems of Jaisalmer that you must visit when you are visiting this beautiful city. Jaisalmer was a princely state in the western Indian state of Rajasthan, in the heart of the Thar Desert. Today, known as the ‘Golden City’, it’s distinguished by its yellow sandstone architecture. We first visited the

Jaisalmer Fort which is locally called the Sonar Quila. It is India’s only living fort and houses shops, hotels and ancient havelis where generations continue to live. Even today 1/4th of the city’s population continues to live in the fort. There is a lot to do in and around the city like boating at the Gadisar lake, taking an evening stroll at Bada Bagh, appreciating the architecture at Patwon ki Haveli, knowing the history of the ruins at Kuldhara village and Khaba fort and enjoying the sunset while riding the camel at Sam and Khuri sand dunes. To top it off, we got to enjoy the Jaisalmer Desert Festival as well which was celebrated between 3rd and 5th Feb. It is an annual event that takes place in the month of February in the beautiful city of Jaisalmer. The highlight of the festival are the unique competitions which are organised for the locals as well as the foreigners, from turban tying competitions, ghoomar dancing competitions, moustache competitions to camel polo matches, tug of wars, etc. We got to experience all that and much more on our visit to India’s Golden City. Have a look for yourself!
