Witnessing Chhath Puja in Bihar: 36-Hour Fast, Thekua & Surya Argh

Chhath Puja Bihar

Curly Tales takes you right into the vibrant heart of Bihar’s grandest celebration – Chhath Puja! Experience this unique festival dedicated to the Sun God, as the entire state of Bihar decks up, and the ghats come alive with breathtaking rituals and devotion. This four-day festival is packed with cultural significance. Day 1: Nahay Khay The festival begins with purification – a holy dip in the river followed by a simple meal. It’s all about cleansing the body and soul for the days ahead. Day 2: Kharna The most intense day – devotees fast for 36 hours without food or water! They break their fast at sunset with a special meal of kheer and roti, marking a moment of strength and devotion. Day 3: Sandhya Argh The stunning evening ritual by the ghats, where families offer prayers to the Sun God. The atmosphere is powerful! Day 4: Usha Argh The final day – devotees stand in the river at dawn, offering prayers to the rising sun, ending their 36-hour fast with pure gratitude. Kamiya Jani was personally invited by Bihar Tourism Minister Nitish Mishra to witness this powerful festival up close. She even joins his family in making the festive thekua, a Chhath Puja specialty, and is treated to an authentic Mithila lunch prepared with love by the minister’s family. As she witnesses the Sandhya Arghya ritual alongside them, Kamiya is swept up in the devotion that lights up Bihar’s soul. This is a must-visit experience in Bihar!
