The spirit of Ramadan is all about celebrations, self-discipline, increased devotion to god, and of course, giving back to the community. Recently, the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina distributed more than 4.9 million Iftar meals during the first week of Ramadan. Here’s more about this!

4.9 Million Iftar Meals Distributed During First Week Of Ramadan

Giving back to the community, worshippers at the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina have been receiving meals for Iftar. Yes, for the first week of Ramadan, 4.9 million Iftar meals have already been distributed! This was announced by the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques in Saudi Arabia. Not to mention, the Kingdom also ramps up its efforts to support the pilgrims during the peak Umrah season.

8,393 m³ Of Zamzam Water Consumed

As it happens, Zamzam water consumption has also increased! As revealed by the Gulf News, 8,393 m³ of water was consumed. Additionally, over 1,190 tons of waste were cleared. Thereby, it maintains a clean and safe environment for millions who are visiting the holy sites. As it happens, the Grand Mosque also recorded a single day peak of 5,00,000 performers! It’s worth noting that this is the highest number so far this Ramadan.

Several New Additions For A Better Visitor Experience

In order to manage the crowds of people, 196 access points have been designated by the officials. This includes five main gates! As a result, you might have guessed, this has been done to ease the entry and exit for worshippers.

It’s worth noting that the authorities have also introduced advanced crowd monitoring technologies. This has been done along with 200 digital wayfinding screens across the mosque;e several pedestrian and assistant teams have also been deployed. Mobile hair-shaving units and even ambulance scooter services are some of the new services that have been introduced to improve the visitor experience.
