When it comes to buying homes, Mumbai is notoriously infamous for being expensive. However, a recent social media post highlights how it’s not just Mumbai where owning a home is unaffordable. The post was made by an investor based in Chennai. He spoke of a couple whom he knew and how, despite earning decent money, owning a home in Chennai was only a dream. The post incited a lot of comments and reflections about the socioeconomic status of most Indians.

Chennai Couple Who Earns ₹1.5 Lakh Per Month Dream Of Owning Home

Owning a home is no joke, especially in big cities. An investor and financial planner from Chennai took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the story of a successful physiotherapist living in a posh area of Chennai. He said that they also have two kids.

The husband works full-time while the wife works a few hours and takes care of their two children. Their combined income is ₹1.5 lakh per month. He also mentioned that the doctor charges around ₹500 for 30 minutes and since he also has a clinic, he has to pay bills and taxes for it at commercial rate.

He then ended the post by highlighting that creating wealth in India is extremely difficult even for well-educated successful professionals like them. The post resonated with a number of people and has already garnered close to 260K views.

This Is How The Netizens Reacted To The Pensive Post

The comment section was filled with sombre reflections about the socioeconomic landscape of India. One commenter pointed out that if it’s so difficult for a couple earning ₹1.5 lakh per month, how difficult it would be for someone who earns the same amount in a year?

Another commenter agreed with the original post and stated that India is a GDP-rich but Per Capita-poor country.
