Benaras And Jammu & Kashmir Will Forever Be Close To Palash Sen’s Heart

In conversations with Palash, we realised that he has a deeper connection to his birthplace, Benaras, and his maternal hometown, Jammu & Kashmir. He got a lot of cultural shocks after relocating to Delhi from Jammu & Kashmir. He shared that it was too hectic, crowded and busy for his liking.

He was only six years old when he settled in the national capital and had a strong impression of it. The other two places were not as developed as Delhi was. Life was a much slower, calmer and closer to the nature. The snowy mountain peaks and winters of Jammu became an integral part of his childhood.

Palash spent most of his childhood in Benaras And Jammu & Kashmir before settling in Delhi. He lived near nature and embraced the peace that came with it. He talked about his experiences of living in various Indian cities. Especially, highlighting how he considers every other place in our country to be ‘sautela’.

Continuing on that thought, Palash shared that his 2016 film, Aisa Yeh Jahaan, depicts the story of an Assamese lad moving to Mumbai and not being able to adjust or accept the City of Dreams. Hailing from places that are closer to nature to a complete concrete jungle, he found a reflection of himself in the story, except he is Bengali in real life.

He continued that he also composed a song called ‘Sautela Sheher’ for this film. He admitted that a piece of his heart will always be in Benaras and Jammu & Kashmir. These are his real shehers!
