Actor Pankaj Tripathi Doesn’t Watch Any Films

We were at the famous food spot, Confeitaria 31 de Janeiro, in Goa to relish freshly made pattice and sweets while catching up about films and acting with Pankaj Tripathi. He reflected on his initial days in Bollywood. The ‘Mirzapur’ actor vowed to give his best even if he had just two scenes in front of the camera. By doing so, he was able to grab attention and leave a mark on the audience.

His mantra was more like ‘chota packet, bada dhamaka!’ and he aced it all too well. Soon he bagged leading roles one after the other. After all, he spends twelve hours a day thinking about acting and how to improve! Pankaj mentioned, “I strictly think about acting, not cinema. I don’t watch films at all.”

Our guest continued, “I don’t recall watching a film in the last four months because I didn’t watch any. However, I read books, which is essential.”

This Is His Drawback

Kamiya circled back to Pankaj’s comment on not consuming films regularly. She questioned whether it was necessary to watch films. To our surprise, he replied that it is one of the best things to do as an actor! He advises not to follow in his footsteps and watch films; it is an experience in itself.

Pankaj talks about how this is also his drawback. However, he believes consuming films either inspires or impacts his acting techniques as his unconscious mind subtly picks up different acting methods. By not watching movies, he maintains his originality in terms of his talents and skills. Hence, he hasn’t watched any for the last 15 to 20 years!
