A passenger on board the Vande Bharat Express travelling from Bhopal’s Rani Kamlapati station to Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station on July 24 was horrified to find a cockroach in his lunch, which had been provided by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
On Monday, the distressed traveller posted pictures of the food on his Twitter account, @subodhpahalajan. He criticised the meal that had been served on the train. This outraged many people and raised questions about the quality of the food served on Indian trains.
He tagged IRCTC’s official Twitter handle and stated that he found a cockroach in the food served on the Vande Bharat train.

The IRCTC swiftly addressed the complaint and apologised for the repulsive experience. They further assured that action would be taken against the food service provider. Additionally, RailwaySeva also addressed the tweet and commented that they did not intend for this unpleasant experience.
Twitteratis responded to this tweet by raising questions about the working of IRCTC. One of the users asked whether the IRCTC has pre-qualification requirements for caterers. Further, he asked whether they conduct quality checks at every level.
Another passenger has stated that the Indian Railway service has been a joke and the work culture is disgusting. Dirty toilets, unhygienic food are common in Indian rails. Several people are asking to involve professionals in the management system.
A user stated that he always travelled by Shatabdi train just to have his food served on the train. However, after watching the video, he is sceptical about ordering from the railway’s catering service. People have been releasing their pent-up anger in the comment section.
