Passengers Beware! X User Reveals New Tactic Used By Bengaluru Airport Cab Drivers To Cheat Passengers

Bengaluru Airport scam

A few days ago, Bengalureans were made aware of a scam that took place at Bengaluru Airport whereby a passenger lost ₹87,000 while using a ‘Lounge App’. And now, a resident took to X (formerly Twitter) to bring to light the ‘Bengaluru Airport cab scam’. So, if you are travelling to and from Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, read on to know how you can be cautious.

Bengaluru Airport Cab Scam To Beware Of

Shivam Sourav Jha took to X to create awareness of a scam that’s happening with passengers travelling to Bengaluru Airport. In a series of posts, the resident shares about the modus operandi of cab drivers driving passengers to the airport. Shivam stated that passengers, especially women need to be cautious while booking cabs to the airport.

While ferrying the passenger to the airport, the cab driver first stops the cab midway, citing no fuel. Then, he drives to a petrol pump and tells the passenger that it costs ₹1100 for fuel. In case the passenger refuses to pay, the driver refuses to move the vehicle, threatening the passenger that they’d miss their flight. Having no choice, a passenger may end up paying ₹1000.

After this, the cab driver will take shortcuts by driving on inner roads to avoid paying tolls. Since no toll was passed, the fare would be ₹800. However, the driver refuses to pay the change. And ends up pocketing ₹200 or more. Cab fares to and from Bengaluru Airport are no small amount. Over and above the exorbitant fare, some cab drivers are using pressure tactics and manipulation to scam their passengers for more money. This is concerning.

X user Kritika Kumari commented that she’d faced this too. Another Netizen Manish Sharma called the inner road shady and commented that he always tells his driver to drive on the highway and pay toll.

Dr Shaurya Garg recollected booking an Uber Go only to have the driver demanding ₹200 over and above his fare. On questioning the reason for the same, the driver said the extra ₹200 was for the AC switched on during the journey.
