A Mumbai-bound Air India flight from San Francisco experienced a technical issue in one of its engines, prompting passengers to deplane during a scheduled stop at Kolkata airport early Tuesday morning. The aircraft has been grounded at the Kolkata airport and airline personnel are now inspecting the faulty engine.
Passengers Of San Francisco-Mumbai Air India Flight Deplaned In Kolkata
According to The Indian Express, San Francisco-Mumbai Air India flight AI180 was scheduled to land in Kolkata at 12:45 AM. The flight arrived on time but a technical glitch in the left engine delayed its onward departure. At around 5:20 AM, all passengers onboard were asked to disembark the flight at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. As per the flight’s captain, the decision was made in the interest of flight safety.
Visuals from the ground show Air India’s staff inspecting the grounded aircraft that flew from San Francisco. The airline’s technical teams will inspect the engine and determine the cause of the snag before the aircraft can be cleared for further operations. More information about this is awaited.

Growing Safety Concern Onboard
The San Francisco-Mumbai Air India flight, which was grounded in Kolkata due to an engine issue, has heightened growing safety concerns in the aviation industry. It comes after a series of similar occurrences in recent days.
In a separate incident, an Air India flight from Hong Kong to Delhi was forced to turn back mid-air on Monday morning due to a suspected technical issue. The aircraft was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, the same model involved in the recent Air India Flight crash near Ahmedabad that claimed over 270 lives.
Another incident of a Chennai-bound British Airways flight from London has added to the concerns of fliers. The flight was forced to return to London Heathrow after a technical fault. The aircraft, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, had remained airborne for nearly two hours before it returned.

As per reports, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked Air India to carry out additional maintenance action on all its Boeing aircraft from now on.
