Since its inception, Akasa Air has introduced several initiatives to reduce its environmental impact and offer passengers an all-around sustainable travel experience. One of the most notable initiatives was the airline’s decision to forgo ceremonial water cannon salutes at flight and route inaugurations. With this, they have been able to prevent unnecessary water wastage.

Akasa Air’s brand new 737 MAX aeroplane fleet also supports its mission to become an environmentally progressive airline with the youngest and greenest fleet in the Indian skies. According to a press release, this sustainable fleet is powered by CFM International LEAP-1B engines and incorporates advanced technology winglets. It reduces fuel use and emissions by 20%, as compared to the aeroplanes it replaced.

As part of its on-ground operations, Akasa Air is scaling up the use of electric vehicles (EVs) for passenger and baggage transportation at airports. They are replacing conventional, fossil-fuel-based vehicles with EVs to reduce their carbon footprint on the ground and contribute to cleaner airport environments. So far, it has helped them prevent 196,300 kilograms of carbon emissions!

In a bid to reduce environmental impact in daily operations, Akasa Air has replaced several paper products usually used in flights with sustainable and recyclable alternatives. For example, they have swapped virgin, bleached-to-white paper in the lavatories with bleach-free, recycled paper. All perishable meal packaging is 100% recyclable and made from paper that is ethically sourced from sustainably grown crops. The airline also uses biodegradable wooden cutlery on board.

For their e-waste management, they have partnered with eNamo to responsibly manage electronic waste across their offices and operations. Dedicated e-waste booths have been set up to provide employees with a convenient and responsible way to dispose of used electronics. Akasa Air has many more green initiatives on the horizon to ensure a cleaner, greener future.
