Kerala is a unique blend of natural beauty and traditional charm. While there are many beautiful places to explore in Kerala, we recommend adding Kakkathuruthu to your itinerary. It is a small island in the Alappuzha district that deserves all your attention right now.

Kakkathuruthu, A Hidden Gem In Kerala

Located in Ezhupunna village at the northern end of Alappuzha, Kakathuruth is a tiny island that can be accessed by boat from Eramallur. This island is only three kilometres long and two kilometres wide and is situated in the middle of the Vembanad lake. The place is a haven for crows and many other species of birds, and is often called the ‘Island of Crows’.

Unlike most surrounding islands, Kakkathuruthu doesn’t submerge even during heavy rains and is a haven for migratory birds. Many ardent birdwatchers head to this island to spot and watch different bird species. Birds of various kinds rest on tree branches, while narrow, muddy paths wind through the peaceful island, creating a picturesque setting for leisurely strolls.
