That’s why, when we came across this video of an Indian living in Japan explaining his expenditures in the country, we thought it might be something that you all would be interested in!

Akash Gautam (@indoriinjapan) is an Indore-based man living in Japan. There, he works in the sales and marketing department of a Japanese company and is fluent in Japanese. He posts about his experiences as an Indian living in Japan on social media and we recently came across one of his posts that could be really helpful for people planning to move to the Land of the Rising Sun.

Responding to a follower’s question about his expenditure in Japan, Akash posted a video with a rough estimate of how much INR you’ll need to survive in Japan. He lives in Tokyo and explained his expenditure as per a single man living in the city. According to him, the biggest expenditure while staying in Japan is your accommodation. For his two-bedroom apartment, he pays around ₹35,000. Next, he gave a gross estimate of ₹15,000 for monthly groceries. Of course, he eats out as well and says it costs him about ₹8,000 to eat out ten times a month. For utilities like phone, electricity, gas, and WiFi, he pays roughly ₹8,000 a month. Next on his list is transportation, which costs around ₹9,000/month.

He also talks about travelling and exploring places in Japan, which can cost somewhere around ₹15,000 for one trip. A rough total of all this can cost you around ₹90,000 a month.

Cost Of Living Varies From City To City In Japan

According to Akash’s post, he lives a comfortable life in Japan despite the expenditure discussed above. In fact, he even sends money back home to India. Now, it is to be noted that Japan is an expensive country to live in. In fact, according to a shiksha.com report, the cost of living in Japan is 129% higher than living expenses in India. However, this varies from city to city.

According to Mercer’s latest cost of living ranking for international workers, Tokyo is the 49th ‘Most Expensive City in the World’. That’s why, Akash’s advice to anyone moving to Japan to work is to make sure you negotiate your salary well to ensure you can live comfortably there.
