Ravisutanjani Kumar (@Ravisutanjani) recently visited the Maha Kumbh with his family and took to X (formerly Twitter) to share detailed travel tips and insights from his trip. In the post, he urged people to plan a visit to Prayagraj soon to experience Maha Kumbh and called it a “once in a lifetime opportunity.”

He shared a detailed thread with tips and insights from his personal experience that will help you plan your trip better. He started by talking about ways to reach Prayagraj. The city has its own airport and is well-connected to major metro cities. However, seeing the rise in demand, the airfares are quite high right now. If you want to avoid the expensive airfare, then you can take a flight to Varanasi or Lucknow and take a cab from there to reach Prayagraj.

If you want to travel by train, then you can take a train to the following railway stations –

  • Prayagraj Junction (Main)
  • Prayagraj Cheoki
  • Prayagraj Sangam
  • Subedarganj
  • Naini Junction

It is to be noted that the Naini Junction is the closest railway station to the Kumbh Mela grounds. Furthermore, one can also take a bus or a car as there are good parking facilities around the mela ground.

Now, how does one reach the Sangam area? Ravisutanjani explains that there are many ways but the two he would suggest are as follows –

1. Take an auto/cab to Kidganj Boat Club from Prayagraj City. You can get a return Boat trip that will directly take you to Sangam Area. The boat can take anywhere from ₹200-₹2000 per person (depending on demand and negotiation skills). It is an ideal way to travel as it will pick you up from Kidganj Boat Club and return to the same location after bathing and help you avoid the mela crowd.

2. You can reach Naini Junction and take an auto/cab to Arail Ghat. Boats are available there during the daytime. They take about ₹100-₹300 per person to take you to the Sangam Area. If you want to avoid the crowd, then reach Arail Ghat or Someshwar Nath Temple Road around 1-2 AM. Then, take an auto and head towards Sangam Gate (Bridge Number 3) using the temporary bridge. From there, the Sangam Ghats are nearby and shall take 20-30 minutes of walking.

After you have taken a holy bath at Maha Kumbh, Ravisutanjani suggests proceeding towards Shri Bade Hanuman Ji Mandir and Akshayvat Temple. From the ghat, it takes about 25-30 minutes to reach the temples. After the darshan, you will have to walk another 20-25 minutes to reach the Mela Entrance Area. Then, you can take an auto/cab to reach the hotel, railway station or airport.

Ravisutanjani mentioned that even with all the autos/cabs, his family walked around 12.3 km on the day of the holy bath. He suggested mentally preparing your family for this, keeping hydrated, taking important medicines, walking slowly, and taking breaks to have a nice trip.
