On February 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 2,000 railway infrastructure projects. These projects have an estimated worth ₹41,000 crore and were launched via video conferencing by the Prime Minister in one go.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the PM called this day “historic for Indian Railways.” Out of the 2,000 projects, there are 553 railway station redevelopment projects, several renovation projects, many road overbridges, underbridges, and underpasses around the railway stations. While addressing the online event, PM Modi called these projects “a symbol of the work culture of ‘New India’.”
In the virtual address, PM Modi further added, “India today works with an unprecedented speed at an unprecedented scale. Parting ways with small aspirations, today’s India has moved on to dreaming big and realising those dreams at the earliest.”

Massive Infrastructure Development For Railways, Things To Know About
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, PM Modi announced the redevelopment of 553 railway stations. This will include the development of rooftop plazas and city centres at the stations to improve facilities for the public. In the virtual ceremony, he also laid the foundation stone of nearly 1,500 road overbridges and underbridges across different states. They will help reduce congestion, enhance safety and connectivity, and improve the overall efficiency of rail travel. Amrit Bharat stations will also be redeveloped as part of these infrastructural projects. The estimated cost for this redevelopment is over ₹19,000 crores.
