PM Narendra Modi visited Gujarat’s Gir National Park today, the only home of the Asiatic lion. He made this visit on the occasion of World Wildlife Day. He went on a lion safari and clicked photographs of the magnificent animals in their habitat.
PM Modi’s Trip To Gir National Park
Prime Minister Modi’s dedication to environmental sustainability and animal conservation was demonstrated during his visit to Gir National Park. He had the chance to see and take pictures of the Asiatic lions while on a lion safari, emphasising the importance of protecting this threatened species. In addition to demonstrating his love of animals, his active participation in the safari raised awareness of the value of conservation initiatives across the country.
PM Modi presided over a National Board for Wildlife meeting in addition to the safari. The government’s commitment to safeguarding India’s varied wildlife was reflected in the talks, which centred on ways to improve conservation initiatives.
Gir National Park: A Success Story In Wildlife Conservation
Gir National Park, commonly called Sasan Gir, is a 1,412-square-kilometre park in Gujarat that was created in 1965. It is well known for being the only home of the Asiatic lion (Panthera leo persica), a species that was once in danger of extinction. The number of lions increased from 411 in 2010 to 523 in 2015, demonstrating the effectiveness of conservation measures.
Grasslands, acacia scrub, and dry deciduous forests make up the park’s varied environment. In addition to lions, it is home to more than 425 bird species and more than 40 animal species, including hyenas, leopards, and different types of deer. Gir is a popular destination for wildlife enthusiasts and an essential place for ecological research because of its biodiversity.

Gir is now a conservation success story thanks to the concerted efforts of the government, local communities, and environmentalists.
