PM Modi Talks About The 75 Railway Stations That Observed The ‘Azadi ki Rail Gadi’ Week

The Indian railways recently observed a week of ‘Azadi ki Rail Gadi’, from July 18-23. The week was celebrated through 27 trains and 75 railway stations, across 24 states that are linked to the Indian freedom struggle. PM Modi mentioned these railway stations and their ways of celebrating and arranging programs. He feels one should take time out to visit one such railway station.
“These 75 stations are being decorated very ornately. Many types of programs are also being organized in these stations. You should also take out time to visit one such historical station in your vicinity. You will get to know in detail about pages from the history of the freedom movement that you have not been aware of,” PM Modi said in his radio program.

The Railway Stations Prime Minister Modi Refers To During His Broadcast

Modi referred to numerous railway stations and shared anecdotes about them in his radio broadcast. He revealed why Jharkhand’s Gomoh Junction which is now officially known as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Junction Gomo has been renamed.
“Netaji Subhash was successful in dodging British officers by boarding the Kalka Mail. All of you must have heard the name of Kakori Railway Station near Lucknow. The names of Bravehearts like Ram Prasad Bismil and Ashfaq Ullah Khan are associated with this station,” said PM Modi. Apart from this, the PM revealed how the brave revolutionaries had displayed their might to the British by looting the treasury the British being carried by train. Talking about Tamil Nadu, Modi mentioned the Vanchi Maniyachchi Junction in the Thoothukudi district.
“This station is named after Tamil freedom fighter Vanchinathan Ji. This is the same place where Vanchi, 25 years of age then, had punished one British collector for his actions,” he said.

Few Indian Trains And Their Links To The Freedom Fighters Of Our Country

Along with railway stations, numerous Indian trains are also linked to great Indian Freedom Fighter personalities. The Ahimsa Express which runs between Ahmedabad and Pune and the Ashram Express (Ahmedabad – Delhi) are related to Mahatma Gandhi. Some trains also have relation to the great poet Rabindranath Tagore who wrote numerous poems and songs about Indian independence. Shantiniketan Express, Gitanjali Express, Gurudev Express, etc all carry a story related to Tagore. Few others like Netaji Express and Azad Hind Express have links to Netaji Subhash Bose.
And we can’t agree more with PM Modi that Indians need to understand and learn more about their freedom struggle. And visiting railway stations that have links to the freedom movement is such an amazing way to do that!
