Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Washington, DC, as part of this three-day visit to the United States. Today, US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will be hosting a state dinner at the White House for Prime Minister Modi. The state dinner will also have 400 invited guests. From millet-based dishes to tricolour decor to a peacock theme, let’s check out what this state dinner holds for its guests.

The state dinner will be served on the south lawn of the White House. It has been thoughtfully planned by the First Lady.
Since PM Modi is vegetarian, the menu will be vegetarian. Jill Biden has asked Chef Nina Curtis to create a stunning vegetarian menu with the White House staff. Chef Nina Curtis specialises in plant-based food dishes. White House Executive Pastry Chef Susie Morrison and White House Executive Chef Cris Comerford will also help in the menu. But the guests will have option to add fish to their main course.

Due to PM Modi’s suggestion some dishes made with millet will also be on the menu. The first course for the state dinner will include dishes like grilled corn kernel salad, tangy avocado sauce, marinated millet, and compressed watermelon.

The main course will include dishes like creamy saffron-infused risotto, lemon-dill yoghourt sauce, summer squashes, stuffed portobello mushrooms, sumac roasted sea bass, and crispy millet cakes.

Known Guests, Performances And More
400 guests will eat at the state dinner under a tent that has been erected on the White House’s South Lawn. Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, Raj Subramaniam, the CEO of FedEx, and Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, are expected to attend.

Visitors will enter the pavilion by crossing the South Lawn. They will find saffron-coloured flowers at each table, representing the colours of the Indian flag. The interior decoration will include images of the Indian and American national birds, the peacock and the bald eagle. The themes from both American and Indian culture will also attract eyeballs.

Grammy-winning singer Joshua Bell and Penn Masala, an acapella group from the University of Pennsylvania, will perform for the guests after dinner.
The evening will come to a close with the guests strolling across the moonlit lawn. Here they will be met by thousands of shining lanterns that will direct them home.
