In a recent development affecting the fast-casual restaurant industry, Hooters has announced the closure of dozens of underperforming restaurants across the United States. This decision comes as a response to the ongoing challenges posed by inflation and increasing supply chain prices, which have been putting pressure on many restaurant chains.
Hooters Shutters Dozens Of Restaurants Amid Inflation Struggles
Hooters confirmed the closures in a statement to Nation’s Restaurant News, emphasising that the well-being of their staff remains a priority, even as they navigate these difficult market conditions. The chain is shutting down approximately 40 locations, stretching from Missouri to Kansas to Texas. Despite these closures, Hooters continues to focus on growth, planning to open new domestic and international locations.
The suddenness of these closures has left many former employees distressed and upset. Many reported arriving for work only to find out their restaurant had been permanently closed. Kate Booker, a former employee at Wichita Falls, Texas, explained that the closure’s abruptness left her and her colleagues without the chance to prepare or say goodbye, as per the Entrepreneur reports.

Employees Left Jobless As Chain Closes Underperforming Stores
Workers shared their experiences on social media, and some of them made videos on TikTok to express how the unexpected news affected them emotionally. During a staff meeting, a former Missouri employee learned of the company’s permanent closure. The sudden news also brought tears to the eyes of some employees.
Hooters is not the only company dealing with these issues. Other fast-casual chains, such as Red Lobster and Olive Garden, have also been impacted. Red Lobster reportedly started closing locations and selling off equipment at auction recently in order to prepare for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to Entrepreneur reports. Olive Garden is adjusting its prices gradually in response to the shifting market dynamics.
By the end of 2023, Hooters had 293 locations open, down 1.3% from the year before and 12% from five years prior, according to data from Technomic Ignite. Hooters is certainly dedicated to providing for its patrons and adjusting to the changing market environment, even in the face of present challenges.
