It looks like the vibrant nightlife of Prague will soon dull down a little! According to The Independent, Prague’s City Council has banned the famous night-time pub crawls. As per Jiri Pospisil, Deputy Mayor for Prague, they want to welcome “more cultured, wealthier tourists”. With this move, they hope to deter rowdy tourists who come to the city “for a short time only to get drunk.”

These pub crawls in Prague were usually organised by tourist agencies and have been quite famous among the young tourists coming to the city. With the ban, the tourists will now have to find alternative ways to enjoy the city’s nightlife. Prague’s authorities were forced to take this step to address the growing issues of noise, litter, and safety concerns in the city. Reportedly, people have been complaining about large groups of intoxicated tourists moving from pub to pub.

These pub crawls were usually organised between 10 PM to 6 AM, local time. The cheap beer and long list of pubs in the city have attracted lots of party lovers to Prague. In fact, as per reports, beer is cheaper than water in some restaurants in the Czech Republic!

Prague is known for its vibrant nightlife and thriving party culture. The city is also renowned for its rich history and stunning architecture. And the city authorities have decided to bring back the focus of tourists on this aspect of the city. As per the motion shared by the City Council, “Unreasonable alcohol consumption and disruptive behaviour associated with pub crawls can give the impression of a lack of culture in society, can reduce the sense of safety and can hurt how the city is perceived by tourists, potential investors and residents themselves.”
