Pratyush Chaubey Finally Reveals Why He Is ‘Jethji’; Calls It A Vibe!

On our latest episode of Tere Gully Mein, we met with Pratyush Chaubey, often referred to as Jethji or Chaubey Ji. We explored Gurugram’s Huda Market with him, where we visited all his favourite spots and learnt a lot about his life. From his relationship with his brothers and his childhood to his equation with fellow comedians and more, this episode was a deep dive into Pratyush’s life beyond comedy, and it was equally fun. He also revealed the meaning behind his nickname, Jethji. Curious? Read on to learn all about it.

Pratyush Chaubey Explained The ‘Jethji’ Persona

If you’ve watched any of Pratyush Chaubey’s comedy videos, you’re probably familiar with his Jethji anecdote, which eventually led to him being called Jethji. He explained that in India, being a jeth is not just a relationship (technically a bride’s husband’s elder brother) but a persona. Pratyush says that whenever someone’s younger brother gets married and he becomes a jeth, he’s automatically expected to behave in an awkward, reserved manner, even if that’s not his natural personality.

He described how the jeth is often an introvert who doesn’t interact much, especially with the bride, who is supposed to feel shy around him. He hilariously added that in a desi family, it’s entirely possible for a six-year-old to have a distant 23-year-old brother who gets married, and that six-year-old is now a jeth! Even he would be expected to behave like the stereotypical jeth. Pratyush ends by saying, “Jethji is not a relationship. It’s a vibe.”

In the episode, we also got to learn a lot about Pratyush Chaubey’s home life and childhood. We wondered if he was a mischievous or naughty kid, but apparently not. He revealed that he’s always been the same: super awkward and introverted. He was the kind of kid who never initiated conversations and only spoke if someone talked to him first. Pratyush was so painfully shy that he wouldn’t even ask for more food, even if he was hungry.

He also listed some of his go-to food spots in Gurugram. Watch the full episode on the Curry Tales YouTube channel to find out what they are.
