Recently the actor also took to Instagram stories to give us jer snack time updates in Nairobi, Kenya. Priyanka seems to be enjoying munching on the very popular Kenyan Chevda there and we can’t wait to share the easy recipe for this savoury East African Snack.
Priyanka Chopra Is Gorging On Kenyan Chevda In Nairobi
The Kenyan Style Chevda is the East African version of our very own Gujarati-style chevdo. The flavours are mostly sweet, sour, and mildly spicy! No doubt Priyanka Chopra loves munching on those. The actor is visiting Kenya as UNICEF’s global goodwill ambassador for child rights. But in her free time, Priyanka is totally busy tasting the local snacks there. She took to Instagram to update the same, shared a packet of Kenyan Chevda, and wrote, “Yasssss. Snack Attack.” Take a look:
How To Prepare Kenyan Chevda At Home?
Making Kenyan Chevda at home is quite easy and hassle-free. If you don’t want to consume a ready-made packet like Priyanka Chopra, just whip it up at home.
Ingredients:
2kg Potatoes
1 cup Icing Sugar
2 cup Moong Beans Whole Big
1 tbsp Turmeric
2 cup Chana Dal
1 tbsp Red Chilli Powder
4 cups Thick Pawa
1 tsp Kashmiri Chilli Powder
½ cup Red Peanuts
½ tsp Asafoetida
½ cup Cashew Nuts
1 tsp Salt
2-inch Cinnamon Stick
1 tsp Cumin Seeds
10 Cloves
2 tbsp Poppy Seeds
2 tbsp Coriander Seed
1 tsp Taj Laving Masala
3 tbsp Brown Sesame Seeds
4 Sprigs of Curry Leaves
2 tsp Fennel Seeds
2 cup Coriander Leaves Chopped
½ tsp Fenugreek Seeds
1 tsp Mustard Seeds
Preparation:
1. First wash and soak the moong beans and chana dal overnight in lukewarm water. You can also add ½ tsp Eno fruit salt to the soaked Chana dal. Mix well.
2. Grate peeled potatoes with a thick grater. Wash and remove the starch. Spread on a kitchen towel, and pat dry. Repeat the same for the moong beans and chana dal.
3. Take a bowl, mix the icing sugar, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, Kashmiri chilli powder, asafoetida, and salt, and put it aside.
4. Heat oil in a deep pan. Add the grated potatoes and fry on high flame for 2 minutes. Lower the flame and fry till crispy. Repeat the same for moong beans and chana dal.
5. Drain the fried potatoes, sprinkle spice powder, and mix well. Repeat the same for moong beans and chana dal.
6. Fry the Pawa on high flame, drain and sprinkle spice powder. Fry the peanuts on low heat till crispy, drain on a paper napkin and sprinkle spice powder. Repeat the same for cashew nuts.
7. In a pan, heat the oil on medium-low heat, and add the fenugreek seeds and coriander leaves. Saute for 2 minutes. Stir continuously till crispy.
8. Next add curry leaves, cinnamon sticks, and cloves. Saute for 5 minutes. Add the fennel seeds, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and coriander seeds. Stir continuously till crispy.
9. For the final step, add sesame seeds, poppy seeds, taj laving masala, and 1 tsp of spice powder. Sauté for a minute, turn the heat off and let it cool. Sprinkle the spice over the chevdo and mix well.
Enjoy with tea or coffee. Or just munch on them like Priyanka Chopra in your own time.
