Pune City Traffic Police have implemented a temporary ban on heavy vehicles at 30 key locations throughout the city. The ban is in effect from 9 AM to 10 PM daily, starting August 5 and continuing until August 12. This decision was made in response to severe traffic congestion caused by heavy rains and deteriorating road conditions.

The continuous heavy rainfall has significantly damaged roads, leading to numerous potholes and worsened traffic congestion. Heavy vehicles, such as trucks, dumpers, and concrete mixers, contribute to the problem. These vehicles often exacerbate road damage and increase congestion due to their size and slow movement. To alleviate the situation, the police have decided to restrict these vehicles from key traffic intersections and locations during peak hours.
Emergency service vehicles, however, are exempt from this ban. They will continue to have access to all areas to ensure that essential services remain unaffected. This exemption is crucial to maintain the city’s ability to respond to emergencies despite the traffic restrictions.
Locations Affected By The Ban
The decision was announced late on Sunday through a notification on the Traffic Police’s X (formerly Twitter) handle. The constant rainfall has left many roads in poor condition, making it difficult for regular traffic to move smoothly. The situation has become particularly dire at key intersections and main roads, where the volume of traffic is highest.
The 30 locations affected by the ban include major junctions and road stretches. These are:
- Sancheti Chowk
- Paud Phata Chowk
- Rajaram Bridge
- Dandekar Bridge
- Nilayam Bridge
- Savarkar Putala Chowk
- Laxmi Narayan Cinema Chowk
- Seven Loves Chowk
- Pandol Apartment Chowk
- Khane Maruti Chowk
- Power House Chowk
- RTO Chowk
- Patil Estate Chowk
- Bremen Chowk
- Shastri Nagar
- Ambedkar Chowk
- Chandrama Chowk
- Mundhwa Chowk
- Noble Chowk
- Lullanagar to Bhairobanala Chowk
- Lullanagar to Golibar Maidan
- Lullanagar to Gangadham
- Pushpa Mangal Chowk
- Rajas Society
- Poultry Chowk
- Undri
- Pisoli
- Handewadi
- Abhimanashree Chowk, Baner Road
- Abhimanashree Chowk, Pashan Road
The ban is intended to ease the flow of traffic in these areas and reduce the risk of accidents. By restricting heavy vehicles, the authorities hope to minimise the damage caused to already fragile road surfaces and improve overall traffic conditions. Residents and commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly and be mindful of the restrictions.
