Pune’s Iconic Cafe Goodluck, Temporarily Shut Down By FDA After Customer Finds Glass Piece In Bus Maska

Tucked away on the buzzing Fergusson College Road, fondly called FC Road in Pune is Cafe Goodluck. A standout Irani cafe that’s been dishing steaming hot cups of Irani chai, comforting bun maska amongst other breakfast and tea-time snacks. The 90-year-old establishment, for the first time in years, is marred in a controversy after a customer found a glass piece in a bun maska, sparking serious hygiene concerns.

FDA Suspends License Of Cafe Goodluck Over Hygiene Issues

As per a report by The Economic Times, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has temporarily suspended the license of Cafe Goodluck in Pune. An official reported to ET that they took the major step to close down the famous Irani cafe due to hygiene issues. A few days ago, a video went viral online that showed a Maharashtrian man finding a glass piece in the cafe’s bun maska. The customer, named Aakash Jalagi, reported the matter online to the authorities responsible for protecting public health.

FDA Joint Commissioner Suresh Annapure stated, as per the ET report, that on conducting the inspection, he found a lot of unhygienic conditions at the eatery. So, they have suspended Cafe Goodluck’s licence until further notice and necessary compliance. The customer, Aakash Jalagi stated to Pune Times Mirror that during his weekly off, he took his wife on a small date to FC Road. During the date, they visited Cafe Goodluck and ordered tea and Bun Maska. When his wife bit into the Bun Maska, she felt a hard substance in her mouth.

Customer Found Glass Shard In Bus Maska; Eatery Responds

Initially, his wife thought it was ice. But on inspecting the matter, the couple was shocked to see a glass shard. Having a glass piece in a food item can be a serious cause of internal injury had she swallowed it. Enraged, the man spoke to the management and took this matter to food safety authorities. They even recorded a video and posted it on social media which was later picked up by publications.

Kasim Irani, the owner of Cafe Goodluck apologised to the couple. He stated that the eatery sources its bread from an external bakery. Aakash Jalagi’s bill was waived off but the he felt the management failed to deal with the issue seriously.
