A true legend of Punjabi cinema is no more. Veteran actor and comedian Jaswinder Bhalla passed away at Fortis Hospital in Mohali on Friday morning, August 22. Reports suggest that he suffered from a brain stroke and died at 4 AM. His last rites will be held on August 23 at 12 PM at Balongi Cremation Ground, Mohali. Ever since news of his demise broke, fans and fellow actors have been pouring in heartfelt tributes.
Punjabi Comedian Jaswinder Bhalla Dies At 65
Known for blending sharp satire with effortless comedy, Jaswinder Bhalla was one of the most cherished icons of the Punjabi entertainment industry. He carved a special place in the hearts of audiences with his roles in movies like Jatt and Juliet, Sardaar Ji, and Carry On Jatta.

On Friday morning, he passed away in Mohali after suffering from a brain stroke. According to The Indian Express, he was born on May 4, 1960, in Ludhiana. He gained popularity in Punjab with Chhankata, a satirical audio-video series that was launched in 1988. It went on to become a cultural phenomenon, where Jaswinder Bhalla’s character ‘Chacha Chatar Singh’ became a household name for its rustic humour and social commentary. Around 27 instalments of Chhankata were released by Jaswinder Bhalla and were loved by Punjabi audiences worldwide.

A Career Worth Remembering
Jaswinder Bhalla’s comic timing was so legendary that many of his dialogues found their way into other movies, including Carry On Jatta. One of his most iconic roles is that of ‘Advocate Dhillon’ in the three Carry On Jatta films. His comic timing and catchphrases resonated with the audiences, making his characters unforgettable and proving that even with limited screen time, his presence left a lasting impact. He last appeared on screen in the 2024 release ‘Shinda Shinda No Papa’. In the film, he starred alongside actors Gippy Grewal and Hina Khan.
