Puri To Become Odisha’s Sixth Municipal Corporation To Boost Tourism And Civic Services

Puri, one of India’s most beloved spiritual cities, is all set to enter a new era of growth and development. In a major announcement made just before the Bahuda Yatra (the return journey of Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra), Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi shared that Puri will soon become a municipal corporation. This is a big step forward for this beautiful city that welcomes lakhs of devotees every year.

Puri is a sacred destination visited by millions of pilgrims and tourists every year. Whether it’s the Rath Yatra, visits to the Jagannath Temple, or a walk down the beach, Puri is always popular amongst tourists. Over time, the city’s population and the number of visitors have seen a significant rise. Consequently, it also calls for better roads, proper waste management, and modern public services in the city.

To meet these growing needs, the government has decided to give Puri the status of a municipal corporation. This will result in more funds, better planning, and stronger infrastructure. According to The New Indian Express, the new municipal corporation will not only include the current Puri city but also nearby gram panchayats from Puri Sadar and Bramhagiri blocks.

This upgrade in Puri will lead to better roads, clean water, sanitation, and other services usually found in big cities. Once this change happens, Puri will become the sixth municipal corporation in Odisha, after Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Berhampur, and Rourkela.

The New Projects Will Transform The City

This move is all set to improve daily life for locals and also make Puri more attractive to tourists. As per The New Indian Express reports, the upgrade will lead to cleaner roads, improved drainage, upgraded public toilets, better street lighting, and regular waste collection in the city.

CM Majhi has also announced several new projects for the spiritual city, which will be the highlight of this transformation. The government has revealed plans to build the Shree Jagannath Museum, the Jagannath Culture Library, and a 300-seat auditorium with light and sound shows. CM Majhi stated that this upgrade is part of the government’s plan to make Puri a top spiritual and tourist destination by 2036.

With this announcement, there’s a strong hope for better roads, smarter planning, more jobs, and a cleaner, greener city.
