A Goa-bound Qatar Airways flight was diverted to Bengaluru in the early hours of Tuesday morning due to “poor visibility” at the Goa Airport. The flight was scheduled to arrive in Goa from Doha at 1:50 AM but was diverted due to low visibility after heavy rainfall. Goa experienced heavy downpour for the fourth day in a row on Tuesday and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now issued a red alert in the coastal state.
Goa-Bound Qatar Airways Flight Diverted To Bengaluru
Monsoon is in full swing in Goa and heavy downpours continued in various parts of the state for the fourth day in a row! These incessant rain showers are also affecting air travel in the city. On Tuesday morning, a Qatar Airways flight from Doha was scheduled to arrive in Goa at 1:50 AM. However, due to low visibility at the Goa Airport, the flight was diverted to Bengaluru.
As per The Financial Express report, the flight circled over the Manohar International Airport in Goa for 15-20 minutes. However, it was diverted to Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru as it could not get clearance to land. The airport authorities said that due to low visibility at the Goa Airport, they had to take this decision.
Heavy Rainfall Continues In Goa; IMD Issues Red Alert
Observing the continuous rainfall, IMD issued a red alert in Konkan and Goa on July 9. As per their forecast, heavy to very rainfall is likely at isolated places in these regions till July 13. Also, strong surface winds over North Goa and South Goa are expected during these rain showers.
Short intense spells of rain showers coupled with winds gusting to 50 kmph are very likely in Goa over the next few days, reported IMD. They have also issued an advisory for fishermen and advised them not to venture into the sea during this period. They have also asked people to avoid flood-prone areas as much as possible.
