UAE witnessed strong thunderstorms and a lot of rain, which affected some locations. As a result, an orange alert was issued. In fact, Qatar Airways flights were cancelled and delayed at the Hamad International Airport.
Qatar Airways Flights Cancelled At Hamad International Airport
The aviation industry is on high alert due to the possibility of aircraft cancellations and diversions, especially in the vicinity of Hamad International Airport. Since midnight, the country has been pounded by torrential rains. According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), Dubai saw its first rainstorm and lightning at around 2:35 AM. Authorities are warning the public to take caution and stay up to speed on the latest weather information, even though it is predicted that these rains will not be as intense as the unusual downpours that occurred earlier in the month.
Despite the current weather emergency, Hamad International Airport has recorded a busy start to the year, having handled 13,171,540 passengers in the first quarter of 2024. The airport’s status as a major hub for international aviation was furthered by the 4,269,618 passengers that passed through in March, February, and January combined.
The Prompt Action & Coordination Kept Passengers Safe
The airport is ready for future expansion, with a capacity of 30 million people yearly and ambitions to extend to 50 million. Interestingly, one of its runways measures 4,850 metres and is the fifth longest in the world. Further, it allows for 100 takeoffs and landings every hour, or five planes every three minutes. This operational effectiveness is essential. Particularly as the airport manages the difficulties brought on by the extreme weather that is currently occurring.
The resilience of travellers and infrastructure was put to the test by the recent storm that affected Hamad International Airport. The airport’s prompt action and coordination made sure that passenger safety was the top priority even with the disturbance. The experience bears witness to the unwavering dedication to quality in the face of adversity as operations gradually resume and travellers make their way home.
