R. Madhavan Talks About The Mindset Of Spending Money
During the conversation, Neil Nitin Mukesh shared a valuable piece of advice that his father gave him—one that has stayed with him to this day. His father told him, “No matter whether you live in a one-bedroom house or a ten-bedroom house, in your home, you are the king.” He always encouraged Neil to live life king-size but also to be mindful of his boundaries and limitations.
Kirti Kulhari added that while it’s important to spend within one’s means, it’s equally crucial to have a mindset of abundance. She emphasised that one should never spend money they don’t have, but whatever they do have, they should spend it wholeheartedly.
Adding his perspective, R. Madhavan explained the difference between knowledge and wisdom. Kirti Kulhari noted that knowledge is something borrowed, while wisdom, on the other hand, is earned. Madhavan elaborated, saying that when you combine your instincts with your conditioning and knowledge, that’s what makes you wise. According to him, every proverb has its time and application, depending on the stage of life one is in.
Giving an example, he shared that people should spend less than they can afford when it comes to buying a car or organising a wedding. On the other hand, they should invest as much as they can when building a house, as it is not a depreciating asset. A car, he pointed out, loses value over time, while weddings are often organised more for social expectations than personal satisfaction.

Madhavan, Kirti Kulhari, and Neil Nitin Mukesh shared their thoughts on the issue. Madhavan expressed his relief that more people are becoming aware of these scams and fully support them being highlighted on Instagram, so that more people can stay informed and protect themselves.
