Radhikka’s Comfort Food And Her City Food Loyalties
Radhikka tells Kamiya how she can eat her comfort foods every day, no matter where she is. “All I need is my sambar chawal, chole-chawal, kadhi chawal.” But as soon as she steps into Delhi, her food preferences completely shift, and she gorges on parathas. “Udhar Chawal bante hi nahi,” she says. Her roots in Punjab come alive when she’s in Delhi, making her a true “rice person” when in Mumbai and a paratha lover in Delhi.

Curious to know more about her food choices in Delhi, Kamiya asks Radhikka what her favourite chaat corner is. She excitedly tells her about Gulaab from 1912 in Pitampura, a place she holds close to her heart. Radhikka mentions that the best thing there is the Golgappa and its pani, which she absolutely loves, and says it’s one of the best spots in Delhi. The burst of flavours from the tangy pani and the crispy golgappas is something she just can’t get enough of.

The conversation takes a nostalgic turn as Radhikka reflects on her childhood. She talks about how, during Kanjak, everyone’s homes would make chole puri, and how mischievous they were as kids. Her childhood friends and she would often pick houses to visit based on what they could get from each. “Hum ne shortlist kiya hua tha, konse ghar mein chole acche milte hai, konse ghar me paise zyada milte hain,” she laughs. Reflecting on her time away from home, Radhikka shares how becoming independent changes one’s perspective. “Leaving home teaches you important life values,” she adds, showing how growing up helps you appreciate what really matters.
