Many trains running all over India have designated compartments for women passengers only. These coaches are commonly found on most local trains and you will see only women sitting and standing inside. Recently, many males were caught by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) for not following the guidelines and travelling in these women’s compartments. Reportedly, the Railway Protection Force in the Eastern Railway Zone held over 1,400 men as they boarded the women’s compartments. All these male passengers were arrested in October 2024 as they were caught in the coaches designated for women. In the Eastern Railway zone, there are regular trains that are operational for ladies only, also known as ‘Ladies Special’ trains. The Railway Protection Force caught many people travelling on these special trains as well.

According to a report by Business Standard, an official shared this information on Saturday. As per the available details, the official requested male passengers to avoid travelling on ‘Ladies Special’ trains and compartments designated for women. If any woman faces issues while travelling on these trains, they can quickly call the number 139. The railway authorities will respond to the call and assist.

As shared by the official, the Railway Protection Force in the Eastern Railway zone has registered over 1,200 cases concerning men travelling in women’s compartments. In addition, they held more than 1,400 male passengers for the same issue.

The Railway Protection Force held 176 male passengers in Malda. The department caught 262 offenders in the Howrah division, 392 were arrested in Asansol, and 574 passengers were held in Asansol. The railway authorities will take strict action against these people caught in different areas for violating rules and travelling in women’s compartments of trains.

They will need to pay fines to the authorities for not abiding by the rules. Also, the penal measures include imprisonment. Necessary action will be taken against every passenger the Railway Protection Force held in October.
