Rajesh Tailang Belongs To A Family Of Musicians
We began our food trail in Delhi’s iconic Bengali Market with Mirzapur fame, Rajesh Tailang. Our first stop was Nathu’s in the Bengali Market, where we relished the fluffiest chole bhature. Over this delicious meal, Rajesh shared stories about his dating life while attending the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi. Surprisingly, he revealed that back in those days, there was a severe lack of options in the city, so most of his dates were at the zoo. This wasn’t just a convenient option but also an affordable one, as he could sit and relax with his partner for as long as he wanted.
Rajesh Tailang comes from an artistic family, and we were curious to know if his relatives were also actors. On the contrary, Rajesh revealed that none of his family members are actors but are deeply inclined toward music or poetry. His grandfather was a tabla player who also practiced Haveli Sangeet, while his uncles and cousins were skilled sitar players.
Does Rajesh himself know how to play an instrument? Yes, he does. He revealed that he can play the bansuri (flute) quite well. With such a strong presence of music in his family, we were curious to know if his role in Bandish Bandits, a music-focused series rooted in tradition, was a manifestation. Rajesh admitted that he believes it was. He even relates his character, Rajendra, to his father, who, as the eldest son, couldn’t pursue his dream of becoming a musician due to family responsibilities.

We Played ‘This Or That’ With Him
Later in the episode, we played an exciting round of ‘This or That’ with Rajesh Tailang and discovered his food preferences. When given a choice between Delhi’s chole bhature and Mumbai’s vada pav, he picked the latter. However, when it came to choosing between Delhi’s chaat and Mumbai’s pav bhaji, Delhi stood as the winner. Next, we asked him to choose between Delhi’s chaat and Rajasthan’s dal baati churma. Rajesh admitted that it wasn’t fair to compare the two. Still, if he absolutely had to pick, he would go with dal baati churma.
When asked where he feels most at home—Delhi, Mumbai, or Rajasthan—Rajesh revealed that Delhi holds that place in his heart as his family lives there and it’s where he has spent most of his life. However, if he had to choose the best place to live, it would be Rajasthan for its slower pace of life and the peace it offers.
