For those who aren’t aware, cannons became a part of the tradition during the month of Ramadan in the United Arab Emirates in the 1960s. Last year five of these were positioned in Dubai and the police had 11 cannons that they move between locations. Talking about the protocol, there should be four officers present while firing. As per a report by the National News, two officers will man the cannon, one will load it, and the other will pass the blank cartridge.

Moreover, two officers will serve as guardians of the canon and they will give orders. So, when it’s time for iftar, the order is given and the cannon is fired. Did you know these booming shots can be heard from several kilometres away? Well, this year also is going to be no different than the previous one!
