Cyclone Asna has been developing over the Arabian Sea, an unusual occurrence for this time of year, especially along the western coast of India. Coastal Karnataka, known for its picturesque landscapes and thriving communities, is now under the shadow of Cyclone Asna. In reaction to the unusual threat posed by Cyclone Asna, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “red alert” for coastal Karnataka. These areas may experience strong winds and rainfall. In preparation for the cyclone, local authorities in Karnataka have been put on high alert.

This time of year, there is not usually a cyclone forming over the Saurashtra-Kutch region of Gujarat. It is predicted to enter the Arabian Sea and go in the direction of Oman. While Karnataka is expected to bear the brunt of Cyclone Asna, Gujarat is also likely to experience significant weather impacts. The IMD has forecasted very heavy rainfall for Gujarat on Saturday, August 31.

The deep depression over the northeast Arabian Sea, portions of Pakistan, and the Kachchh coast has been moving westward at a speed of six kilometers per hour for the last six hours.

26 people have died in Gujarat during the last four days due to severe rainfall. More than 18,000 people have been taken out of their homes, and about 1,200 people have been pulled out of places badly damaged by flooding. Even though the majority of Gujarat experienced less rain by Friday morning, authorities noted that numerous cities and villages were severely flooded as a result of overflowing rivers. Only four regions in the state received 15 to 26 mm of rain between 6 am and 2 pm, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), with the remaining areas either experiencing light showers or dry conditions.

Residents in vulnerable areas are being advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. The authorities are also closely monitoring the situation, with the IMD providing regular updates on the cyclone’s path and intensity.
