Regena Cassandrra of Rocket Boys, Farzi and Evaru fame took us around the gullies of her hometown Chennai on a new episode of Tere Gully Mein. We chilled at Marina Beach, relished a South Indian thali and even asked Regena to bust a few myths about Chennai.
9 Myths About Chennai Busted For Us By Regena Cassandrra
While chatting with us at Marina Beach, Regena Cassandrra busted a few myths about Chennai.
Myth 1: Chennai food is just about Idli and Dosa. The way Regena glared at us for talking about this myth was enough to hint that it needed to be busted big time! “No, it’s not! It’s only Idli-Dosa for the ignorant,” she says candidly.
Myth 2: It’s always hot and humid. Regena says, “It really depends on the time of the year you visit Chennai”. She cited examples of Cyclone warnings to prove that it isn’t always hot and humid in Chennai.
Myth 3: Chennai is all about tradition and culture. “The people in Chennai are pretty conservative. Not judgemental. They like to mind their own business.” The Farzi actor revealed there was a reason why she dressed modestly at the beach for an interview with us. She prefers to wear shorts and a hoodie for a jog if she is by herself. She also revealed that Marina Beach is often dotted with couples spending romantic time together. So, it depends on what one would term as “conservative”.

Myth 4: The city is just about temples and beaches. “Not really, we do have a lot of museums in Chennai that are worth going to; a lot of old buildings. We have some good places to go shopping.”
Myth 5: Everyone speaks only Tamil in Chennai. This was one myth that even Regena Cassandrra found it hard to bust. She called it “debatable.” She says, “It’s sort of true. I won’t deny.”
Is Chennai Just About Filter Coffee?
Myth 6: Chennai is all about Filter Coffee and no Chai. Regena looked at us in bewilderment. “Rubbish. Come home, I make great Chai,” she responds.
Myth 7: Chennaites wear only sarees and lungis. “No, I mean you can look around,” Regena prods us to look around Marina Beach where beach-goers are wearing an array of western and traditional outfits.
Myth 8: Chennaites eat food only on banana leaves. “I think everyone should eat food on banana leaves,” she propagates. Regena believes that banana leaves absorb Vitamin D from the sun well as well as other nutrients in the food. So, one must place a banana leaf on a steel plate too.

Myth 9: Rajinikanth is worshipped like God in Chennai. This was one myth Regena agreed on. But she pointed out that the state has other superstars like Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar who are worshipped as well.
Well, we’re thankful that Regena Cassandrra helped bust 9 myths about Chennai. Do you agree with her?
